The beginning of "Ugg" has a long history dating back at least to the 19th century when natives of Australia began using sheepskin hides to make various pieces of clothing. Sheepskin hides were valued for their warmth and durability in the colder climates of Australia and their unique thermostatic properties have the ability to breathe even in summertime, thus creating natural air-conditioning to your feet all year long.

One theory of the name "Ugg" is that it started with this original footwear just being plain "ugly", thus the nickname "Ugg". The more romantic theory is that they were originally called "Hugs" because of the way they "hugged" your feet. But Aussies have a way of dropping the letter "H" from their words, thus "Uggs" was born!
